Abigail
What do you think of Abigail? Is it very common where you live? Do you hear Abigail a lot or just Abby? Do you think most Abigails go by Abby?
Hmm my theory was always that people didn't really like Abigail (the full name) much but chose it so they could call the baby Abby (as I never ever met an Abigail who got called by her full name). I'm starting to appreciate the full name at the moment (I used to find it ugly).
So I would only use it without the nn Abby. Just Abigail.
WDYT?
Oh and do you think it'll lose popularity or will it rise again?

Abigail is one of those names I've always really really liked.
As much as I can remember I've never met a Abigail.
If I used Abigail I would never call her Abby and would really dislike it if other people called her Abby.
Her popularity sucks. Even though I've never met one, I probably wouldn't use it. I should try to put her in a combo as a MN.

I know quite a few Abigails in all different age ranges. It has never really gone out of style here. Almost all go by Abby/Abbi/Abbie/Abbey. One goes by Gail though and I just love that!
I'm undecided about Abigail, although I've had two good friends with the name. Both of them went by Abi. The only other Abigail I've met uses the full version, and is a really annoying seven-year-old.
Abbey and Abby as full names seem quite popular here though, unfortunately, judging by school calendars. I'd much rather see Abigail as a full name.

I love it! It's one of my top names to use. I think the full name Abigail is pretty, but I like the nn Abbie too. It is pretty common where I live right now, and I know quite a few Abigails who are my age too and a few in between. I believe majority of girls are named Abigail, nn Abby/Abbie. Although my friend's 6 month old is named Abigail with no nn.
I can see it losing some of its popularity, but since it's an older traditional name and older names are starting to come back especially, I can't see it becomming genuinely unpopular again for many years.

What do you think of Abigail?
-I loathe the name. It makes me think of stern-faced Puritans and somber, black clothing.
Is it very common where you live?
-No, not at all. I have never met an Abigail in my life.
Do you hear Abigail a lot or just Abby?
-Actually, I hear parents call for Abby on occasion, so maybe their full name is Abigail. I've seen quite a few BA's where they were just Abby, though.
Do you think most Abigails go by Abby?
-Yes.
Do you think it will lose popularity or will it rise again?
-I think it will slip in popularity, seeing as how it seems to be on its way out already. I hope it does, anyway; I think the name is very ugly.

My sister's name is Abbie, so it just seems average to me. I would only use Abigail if I were to choose to honor her, though. I think to see a little girl who actually went by Abigail would be quite nice. I don't think it will ever drop off the charts because of the historical and religious references, but I don't see it surging back up the charts either.
It's nice, though not the kind of name I'd use. It's very uncommon where I live.
I absolutely hate Abby, though.

I still find the name Abigail incredibly ugly, and unlike you, I haven't changed my mind.
Once I posted that I couldn't understand its popularity, and someone responded with the identical thought that you have, that people use Abigail only because they like Abby. I still don't get it, because I find Abby just as ugly as Abigail.
I have never known an Abigail and I don't know anyone who has named their baby Abigail. I only know that it's popular from looking at the popularity lists.
I think that it can only lose popularity.

I think Abigail is pretty. My sister was almost named it, but my cousin really wanted to name a kid that so my mom let her have it, so I have a cousin named Abigail Morgan who is sisters with Madisyn Averi (nns Abbi and Madi) I usually do hear all Abigails called Abby (and I do know at least 6 Abigails), which is unfortunate I think because I think the actual name is prettier than the nn.
