Valkyrie
Any thoughts on Valkyrie?

I like it in a GP kind of way. I prefer strong girls' names, but Valkyrie might be too strong of a name to use as a first name -- akin, in my mind, to using Amazon as a name. Maybe even more extreme than that because of Richard Wagner's "Die Walkure" which, like most Wagner, is intense.
It would make an awesome middle name were it not associated with Nazis. I wasn't aware of the Nazi association until others' comments here, but that would be enough to dissuade me from using it.

I wasn't aware of the Nazi association before, either. Because of it, I would never use this name.
Love it; very strong name, but not too "rough".
lovely name for a neonazi

Yeah...
Can't get over the Nazi association.

Reminds me of the movie. I dislike it.
Valkyrie was the middle name of Unity Mitford - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unity_Mitford - who was a Nazi, and that's the only time I've ever seen it used, which puts me off a lot. Valerie is much nicer, imo.
I have the same unfortunate association in my head as you.
I like Valkyrie as a name. I even like Unity as a name. But Unity Mitford just ruined them for me. I'm waiting for some other association to come along so I can scrub her out of my mind. But I'm not holding my breath.
And I second your choice of Valerie, by the way. An underappreciated gem.

It's a nice movie? I don't really like it as a name but at least you can use 'Val' as an nn.
