I taught a Dorothy a couple of years ago - she would be about 10 this year. She had a younger brother named Edmund. The parents clearly had good taste! Unfortunately I never got her middle name.

I love Dorothy. It's my second favorite girls name, and yes, I prefer it to Dorothea (unlike the rest of my family). Should I have two daughters, the second would be Dorothy Ann.

As a middle name, how about Etta Dorothy?

I've always found it dowdy, though I like Dorothea (nn Thea) and like Dora as a mn.

I can see the appeal of Dorothy, but I much prefer Dolores, which I feel is deserving of a comeback.

I love Dorothea said exactly likr Dorothy, and I like Dorothy as well.

I don't like Dorothy. I am from Kansas, and the Wizard of Oz jokes are annoying based on that. I would hate to be named Dorothy. Beyond that, it seems frumpy to me. It's not one of those antiquated names that appeals to me. I think Dora and Dory might enjoy limited popularity, but Dorothy is still the name of lots of living old people and so I think it may be a while before it makes a comeback.

Dorothy is cute! I live in Kansas, so a Dorothy here would get battered with Wizard of Oz comments. I think Dot/Dotty and Dolly are adorable for nicknames.

Dorothy over Dorothea for me. I'm quite fond of Dorothy, I'd be delighted if it made a good comeback. Dorothy is full of life, very spunky. Dorothy Alice is nice, but I think I'd rather see Dorothy and Alice as sisters than in one name.
I'm fond of Dorothy Jane, Jane's simplicity puts the spotlight on Dorothy.

I've come around to names like Iris and Hazel having a bit of a comeback, but Dorothy I dont think I'll get used to. I guess I just dont like the Dor sound much, which means I also dont like Dorothea. I dont mind names where the 'dor' sound isnt first, like Theodora or Isidora.

I really like Dorothy, especially with the occasional nickname of Dory and/or Dottie.

I have a great aunt with the name (sister to my grandmother, Alice) and she's definitely a positive association for me. She's a wonderful, vivacious woman.

Dorothy Alice is quite pretty. I'd like to see Dorothy see a comeback as well. I don't see it as "dated" at all. Dorothea is kind of nice too.

Eh, I don't like Dorothy or Dorothea. There are very few D names that I will actually tolerate though... ;) I like Thea on its own though.
