All this talk about nicknames gets me thinking...
Gabriel nn EllieDoes it work? I don't really like Gabe, and maybe I can take Eliana nn Ellie off my shortlist if I use it for a boy's nickname instead.

Ellie is all girl to me. I can't see it on a boy.

Gabriel is lovely, but Ellie as a nickname? No way, and especially not on a boy!

Isn't Eli in a lot of places pronounced like Ellie? And that's a boy's name. And Ellie is used as a nickname for Elliot sometimes I'm sure.ETA: Elie Wiesel is a famous author.

My grandfather was named Elieprn like Ellie. I don't think it was ever a problem for him, as far as I know.

Exactly!Elie Wiesel (Pronounced ELLIE) is very important, and a meaningful author to me, it makes me love Elie for a boy! It's a bit of a stretch for Gabriel, but doable. I adore Elie for an Elliot.

Ellie is too feminine for a boy's nn in my opinion. Call him Gabriel,.

It would make more sense as a nickname for Elliott if you wanted to use Ellie for a boy. Elle might be better as a nickname for Gabriel. It doesn't seem to strange for me to have a boy named Elle because my great-uncle's MN is L (yeah, my great-grandma couldn't think of a MN). Anyways when you say Gregg L out loud it sounds like Gregg Elle, so it's almost masculine to me.

I think it's too feminine for a boy. Instead of Gabe, maybe Abe?

I don't think this works for a boy. How about Gib Gibby or Abe as nn for Gabriel. Some full names for Ellie are Elliot, Eleanor, Eleanora, Elaine, Eileen, Elizabeth, Eliabel, Isabella, Gabriella, Giselle, Michelle, Eloise, Ellery, Noelle

It's a bit of a stretch for me, in my accent the -el sound more like ul than el. Ellie is pretty feminine for a boy. If you like it, then use it, but keep in mind that he might not like Ellie and insist on going by Gabriel or Gabe. If you can't stand Gabe and don't have any other nn options, I'd keep looking for a full name for Ellie.
