I love it! One of my closest friends is called Taryn and it suits her perfectly I think because she's completely unique as is this name.

It's an old family name for me (my great(X5)-grandmother had a stillborn baby that was named Taryn, and also the name of a great character in a book I have that was wrote in the 1930's, so it feels very traditional, substantial, and literary, very classic to me. It feels extremely smart and sweet to me.

It went through a weird semi-surge in popularity in the grades directly below me at school. There would have been three in the grade directly below me and 4 in the one below that. All the Taryns were the bitchy, stuck-up, air brain types. I think it looks cheap written down and sounds insubstantial when said aloud. Not a fan...

I agree with you. Also, the sound is so very unattractive (tearin').

I was going to say I liked it, but I thought it was masculine at first :P So yeah, it is kind of annoying. If it was on a boy I would like it though.

I actually used to love this name when I was a kid. Taran for a boy or Taryn for a girl. I played soccer with a girl named Taryn. It is kind of embarrassing that I liked Taryn. Not Taran though... that's legit. And then I later found out that Taran is pronounced TAH-rin anyway. Ohs wells.

I really don't like it. It sounds ugly and heavy, and the first time I saw it I thought it was pronounced tar-yin. I've never understood that change-i-to-y thing. I much prefer Tara, even though I don't like that name very much.

My cousin dated a Taryn when he was in high school. Sweet girl, but terrible name. It reminded me of tarantulas.
