Ghislaine
WDYT? (zhees-LAYN) What does it remind you of? TIA!
Replies
I really admire Ghislaine.
Yes!
I discovered it months ago. It's so awesomely dark and Arthurian without actually being Arthurian. Although to my understanding it's pronounced with a hard G because the G is followed by an H.

Sloppy feminisation
The audio pronunciation I found sounds like "zhees-len", but I've also heard "gee-len".

I like the name either way.

Actually, its ususally pronounced (GEEZ-lehn). I find it a bit harsh.
wow. I like it. It's powerful.
I picture a girl living in medieval times with a plain face and long, ash-blond hair. Think Princess Buttercup.
It's nice, but I can't picture it on a real person. It's more of a character name.

Comment and question
The prn is pretty but its spelling is off-putting. I think it's the H just because it seems so unnecessary. Ghislaine's a little too weird for me.
Anyone know what the English prn would be? gees-LAYN?

I second that gees-LEN is gorgeous, but I don't care for the zhees-LAYN prn.

I'm a huge Ghislaine fan, whether it's pronounced zhees-LAYN or geez-LAYN - I just think it looks so pretty! It's interesting, unusual and beautiful...it makes me think of a young girl, attractive but witty. I also love the masculine variant, Ghislain. Two very pretty, very lovely names!

It's geez-LANE (hard g like in goat).

I love it, but not pronounced like that. I like it the French way gees-LEN (that's as close as I can get). It reminds me of the only person with that name I know. A very pretty, black-haired, slightly bitchy girl.
I like this name as well, but it's really nms. I also know someone with this name, and she is also French-Canadian, her name is Ghysaline, not Ghislaine (she pronounces it different too, almost like gees-selene)
Well, in French I thought a g was zh sound, isn't it?
Not when its followed by an H.
