1. TAHN-ya (long a sound) most definitely! Hate it when it's TANya like the A in "man."
2. I like the "-ia's," although Tania seems richer than Tonia (kind of looks like Tonic.) I know a Tonya, so I like than. Tanja's pretty cool, because I hadn't realized it could be spelled that way. Any of these as a nn to Tatiana would be gorgeous (of course, a Tatiana could also be nn'd Tati.) Or Tonia/Tonya could be a nn for Antonia, which is also quite pretty.
3. My impression - I like it a lot. Like I said, my friend's mother is named Tonya, so in that case I see a tall, sweet blonde woman. When I see Tanya, I think of a children's book I read about a girl by that name who is a ballerina. A Tatiana Tania reminds me of a book I read named Wildwood Dancing, so then I see a tall, slim, dark-haired and beautiful Transylvanian girl (she was on the good side, by the way.) Antonia Tonia makes me think of a (again, brunette) Italian Catholic girl.
4. Sisters - Sofiya, Tansy, Jenica (pronounced with that "zh" sound), Iulia, Isobella, depending on which type of the name I'm thinking of.

1. TAHN-ya
2. Tanya in US/UK, Tanja in Croatia
3. Well, my name is Sanja and when I was born Tanja, Sanja and Sonja were very popular here, so the name is a bit boring and the American equivalent of Jennifer or Jessica to me.
4. I've known Tanjas with sisters named all sorts of names, but generally a name that was popular in the 1970/80s (in Croatia that would be Ivana, Ana, Maja, Marina, Martina... in the US the before mentioned Jennifer, Jessica, Kelly, Sarah...) . My 16-year-old neighbours are twins names Tanja & Sanja, lol.

I would say Tonia is the least low-class of the lot, but I dislike it still.
1. TAHN-ya
2. Tania. Tonia and Tonya make no sense to me - in my accent Tanya and Tonya have different vowel sounds (but I know they're merged in North American English).
3. I like it. A girl with this name used to babysit me when I was little, and she was awesome. The name reminds me of her.
4. Well the Tania I knew had 4 sisters, so I can't really think outside of that! Anita and Kira lol.

I'm American, originally from the Northeastern U.S., and I pronounce Tanya and Tonya differently.
Oh ok I guess the merger isn't complete everywhere. Is Tanya 'tan-ya' for you, or 'tahn-ya'? I say 'tahn-ya', which is different from 'ton-ya' (Tonya).
Same here except Im from the Southeast.
My former boss' name was Tanya. She pronounced it with the short A, and would become quite annoyed when anyone pronounced it with the long A. I myself prefer the long A. I prefer the Tanya spelling.
Since she's the only Tanya I've ever known, the name makes me think of a very short, heavy-limbed, bleached blonde, very sweet and good-natured woman. I like the name, don't find anything objectionable about it, though it's not a favorite.
I could see a Tanya having sisters named Katie and Kristen.

1.I've mostly heard it as TAN-ya (short a), though the TAHN-ya is somewhat "classier".
2.Tanya, preferred spelling.
3.I like it well enough, certainly don't dislike it. Doesn't really remind me of anything.
4. The one Tanya I did know, had a sister named Gwenyth, if that helps. Otherwise-
Tanya, Judith, and Amber.
