It's the "ah" sound at the beginning that lends itself so well. Audrey is very versatile.
Just now the combo Audrey Matelda popped into my head when you mentioned Italian sounding names. It may not have enough Italian goodness for you. But I thought I'd throw it out there anyway. There certainly are a number of other, more obviously Italian sounding names, that could work just as well: Audrey Ginevra, Audrey Chiara, Audrey Giulia?
