I know two Mirandas, one college-aged and the other around 50. I think it works for any age.
I love this name, and I associate it most strongly with The Tempest. To me, a Miranda is strong, kind, but maybe a little untested by life. I usually picture a beautiful redhaired woman when I hear it, probably because of the painting Miranda and the Tempest by John Waterhouse.
