Miranda?
I used to hate this name (b/c of a person, not the name itself), but as I've started putting together a new story and looking for names for my heroine, I keep turning back to Miranda!
It's a pleasant sound, I think, but I want to know if anyone (particularly Americans and Brits) would find it strange to meet a Miranda in her mid-20s?
Also, just what do you think of the name in general? Like is it snooty, exotic, etc...?

I really like it, and I think it's quite gorgeous in sound, i also like the nn Mira. That said I used to think of it as a harsh snooty name until I met one who was the nicest girl in the world. There was this one girl S at our school who was cruel to everyone and Miranda still made an attempt to comfort her when she was sad and looked after all those around her. She made such a good impression, she was so forgiving and kind, quite underappreciated really, that I started to not hate the name and over time I've grown to like it. She's 17 now, but I wouldn't find it odd at all to meet a Miranda in her mid-20s.
I know two Mirandas, one college-aged and the other around 50. I think it works for any age.
I love this name, and I associate it most strongly with The Tempest. To me, a Miranda is strong, kind, but maybe a little untested by life. I usually picture a beautiful redhaired woman when I hear it, probably because of the painting Miranda and the Tempest by John Waterhouse.

I used to love Miranda. When I hear the name I picture a brown haired little princess girl but now I have a Miranda (aged 17) in my class in school and she is everything I expected a Miranda not to be. But I think the name is good and I wouldn't find it strange to meet a Miranda in her mid-20a.
The only Miranda I know in person is my mum who is in her late 50s. Her nickname as a child was Mandy (which doesn't suit her at all now!) I wouldn't be surprised to find one in her mid-20s. I don't associate it with any particular age group as it's never been popular in Britain.
I like it. I would expect a Miranda to be elegant, sophisticated, intelligent and maybe a bit arty.

I'm British and I know a Miranda aged 23.
Personally, it's not really my style, but it is a pretty sounding name.

I'm mainly reminded of the Shakespeare character. It's a pretty name, I don't find it snooty or dated.
I'm not the biggest fan of Miranda. I have always found it kind of clunky and imagined it on a really quiet awkward girl. The other thing is that it reminds me of 'miranda warning'- like have you read her her miranda rights? Law student/crime tv buff here :-p
Besides all that, I wouldn't find it strange to meet a 20 something Miranda. It isn't really a name that has ever been common for a particular age group (that I know of), just one that has always kind of been around.

I've never met a Miranda any name, but I think it would work for a girl in her 20s. I like the name
I work with a Miranda in her late 20s.
So it's not odd. She's far from what I expected of one, though - I always thought of someone quiet, pretty and slightly exotic but she's pretty down to earth and not that pretty. She's cool, though.
I used to adore it but lately I've been pretty meh on it, probably because it lost its' exotic flair when I met one - which is odd. My niece is Miranda but she's never called anything BUT Mira, so I suppose I never thought of her as one.

Jessica just reminded me...
I knew of another Miranda as well, also in her late 20s. I took her job from her and was not that impressed with her.
Interesting - both of Mirandas I've known have had bad acne scars and long dark hair (that's where the similarities end, though. The DC Miranda was a spoiled brat with an attitude, the one I work with is a really nice if slightly lazy young lady.)

I know two Miranda's, both in their mid 20's, so it wouldn't be strange for me meeting another one.
I like it, but it does sound a bit snooty, mainly because one of the Miranda's I know is horrible.
