Did you check the Arianna spelling? I have a feeling that one is more popular in the US. I've never met a single Arianna (of any spelling). Re: popularity, it depends on the standards of the individual. Some people limit themselves to anything useable after the top 50, the top 100, etc. Personally, Arianna / Ariana is not too popular for me.

ETA that I just checked the stats for Arianna. It ranked #70 in 2007. I don't see this name bursting with sudden popularity.
