Trevor
I recently had a conversation about names with a friend. When I mentioned that I had been considering the name Trevor before I knew that the baby would be a girl she totally freaked out. She went on for like 5 minutes telling me all the disadvantages the name Trevor had and how many people she knows strongly dislike it. I was very surprised with that reaction.
Have you had similar experiences with that name or do you feel similiar about it?
I'm just curious because I wouldn't have expected that kind of reaction.

I totally love the name, but I can kind of understand when people don't.
For some reason, in the UK, Clive, Colin and Trevor are often cited as nerdish names. I really don't know why.
Trefor (the Welsh pronounce f as v) is a perfectly fine Welsh name.
I know three Trevors - one about 70, one about 48, the other 25. Both are very nice well-educated people. (None of them are related to each other and all live in different cities.) The older one is a retired lawyer, the middle one is a bigshot lawyer, and the younger one an IT specialist, not at all nerdy or lower-class (where does THAT perception of an earlier poster come from?!

I know three people with this name, and all of them are highly unsavory characters. The name has bad personal associations for me, and I'm guessing for your friend as well...? It's happend to me before, usually everytime I bring up names with my mother. She was highly apprehensive when she heard we were thinking about using the names Edgar and Hugo for our twins!
I actually like Trevor. It's another name I'd love to have on my list, but doesn't make the cut due to popularity.
I can't think of any real experiences I've had similar to this one, but that's not to say I haven't had one.

I have an 18 going on 19 year old friend named Trevor and he's awesome and a really nice guy. I guess you can say I like the name ^_^
Honestly? I truly, completely, utterly loathe the name Trevor. It's so dated and low-class. Ugh!
I don't see anything wrong with the name Trevor...
I have no idea what bad associations she could be talking about.
The only thing I can think of is that in the movie The Machinist, Christian Bale plays a half-crazed emaciated guy named Trevor Reznik.
