Maria
What do you think of the name Maria? It's recently become a favourite for me, but don't hold back on the opinions. :)Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I adore it and would seriously consider using it in the future.

I prefer other versions of Mary, and Mary itself. Maria does sound ethnic to me, I usually prefer the English versions of names. But I don't hate Maria, it's a classic and much better than anything made-up.

Every third Finnish girl/woman I know has Maria as her middle name, so for me it's terribly overused. Sorry...
I also know Niina-Maria, Anna-Maria, Annamaria, Anne-Maria, Hanna-Maria, Sanna-Maria, Liisa-Maria, Eeva-Maria, Maria-Elena and Maria-Kaisa + 2 Mariias... It's just too much!

Maria (along with Mary) is gorgeous. It's a pretty, historical name.

I like it. Of course, I could be just a tad biased...but seriously, I'm quite pleased to have it as my name, because, to me, it sounds feminine, classical but kind of exotic at the same time.

I'm a musical freak, soooo....(m)If I ever had a daughter called Maria, she'd hear the song (from West Side Story) a lot. That's what I think of first--and of my grandfather (who absolutely loved it) singing the song. Maria's nothing but good thoughts. It's very, very lovely.Array
Get into the car
We'll be the passenger
We'll ride through the city tonight
See the city's ripped insides
We'll see the bright and hollow sky
We'll see the stars that shine so bright
The sky was made for us tonight

Maria is pretty and classic but very popular in Sweden, in the Mom-generation. Today Maja (an old nn for Maria now used as a formal name) is more popular.

For an English speaker, Maria is a million times more interesting than Mary. So I like in that sense, but it's not a favourite. It makes a better middle name I think :-)_____________________________________________________________________Elinor'Why do people with closed minds, always open their mouths?'

I really, really hate it. I have trouble explaining why I hate it, but I'll try: It sounds very ugly and harsh to me (mah-REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-uh), and is very overused. Also, it seems extremely Spanish to me, and would seem out of place on a non-Spanish child. Sorry!

LOL, I'm as non-spanish as they come. I have fair skin, red hair and freckles, and could never be described as Mediterranean. ;-)

Maria is very popular in SwedenMaria is an international name, really not especially Spanish. "You sought a flower and found a fruit. You sought a spring and found a sea. You sought a woman and found a soul. You are disappointed."

Yep, I know...(m)But I've known SO many Spanish Marias that it's permanently stuck there.
