I love Calliope.

I like Calliope, I much prefer Kalliope because it is not Latinized. Kalliope is pronounced kah-lee-OH-pee in Modern Greek and that is my prefered pronunciation. I think English slaughters it too much, heh.

The pairing is ok. On one hand they are matchy because of the similar spellings, but I think the styles are a bit different.

I suppose Kalliope is more "authentic". You're correct about the Greek pronunciation.

However, I think Calliope with the usual English pronunciation is best if you're living in an anglophone country. It's a great name that's not common but not too odd. The "pee" sound doesn't bother me. People would probably call her Callie. It's not a bad nickname; and anyways, people can make nicknames (bad or good) out of any name.

I think your sibset works very well. Estella and Calliope definitely sound like sisters and both are lovely names.

SHE might prefer Callie.

I like the name, but not for any of my kids. I think Calliope looks better than Kalliope. But that's just my opinion.

I've always thought it was ka-LEE-oh-pee. With the stress on the second syllable. But I like ka-LIE-oh-pee, too.

LOL I guess the "pee" sound doesn't seem too pleasant. Perhaps that's why I never really liked the name Penelope.

I used to pronounce Calliope as ka-lee-O-pee for years (and thought it was the correct English one) until someone mentioned the correct pronunciation on the boards. Oops! When I found out it was ka-LIE-o-pee I liked the name much better than before. I do like kah-lee-OH-pe the best, though. It just seems more natural, but the Greek pronunciation is kah-lee-OH-pee, so the "pee" sound stays anyway.

Uh, don't you mean Cantaloupe(the fruit)??? Who would name there child after a honeydoo? That just terrible! That child is going to go through the worst bullying in school, it makes me sick and want to vomit. OMG, I'm vomiting all over the keys! Anyway, I admire your courage for naming your child such a...different name!
