I don't mind it, it's not a bad name, just terribly overused and it has been destroyed completely by all its ugly variants from
Kaitlyn over
Katlyn to Kayghtelynne.
I probably shouldn't complain about alternate spellings, though. I do like
Caitlin but my favorite spelling of it is actually Cateline. I do not see it as a misspelling, I think it looks similar to
Catherine and
Caroline so I find it very pleasing.
My favorite spellings are:
Cateline
CaitlinCatelin
Catelyn
If I had to choose a K spelling I'd go with Kateline,
Katelyn,
Katelin or
Kaitlin and I can stand
Katelynn (I see it as a combo of
Kate and
Lynn). I dislike all the other spellings, especially
Kaitlyn,
Katlyn and Katlynn.
A big issue is that people will probably never spell your daughter's name correctly.
Caitlin is not even the most common spelling anymore. So it would always get misspelled no matter what. Because that's the case you can basically spell it the way you want to as you will always have to correct people anyway. So if I had to use it I'd go with Cateline.
No, I wouldn't use it. I kind of like Cateline as a middle name, but i definitely would not use it as a first name. I don't want a super common name for my child and I don't want her having to spell her name out for people all of the time and becoming "Cateline, with a C" or "Cateline M.". It is so overused that you might as well just give your kid a number as a name as she will never be just
Caitlin anyways. I go to school with several girls named
Isabel. I'm only friends with one of them so when we talk about the others it's always "the other
Isabel" or "the blond
Isabel" which must be so annoying for all of the Isabels.
Not anytime soon but it will be out of the top 100 by 2015 if you ask me and then sound incredibly dated.
I know:
Caitlin (7)
Kaitlyn (5)
Kaitlin (3)
Katelyn (1)
Katylin (1)
Katlynn (1)
Kayghtelynne (1)
Katelin (1)
Katlynne (1)
edited: above are the numbers of girls named
Caitlin etc I know, not their age. I do know 7 girls named
Caitlin, 5 named
Kaitlyn and so on.
