Beatrice or Beatrix?
Which do you prefer?I prefer Beatrix but worry it's too much like beer-tricks.

Beatrix!Beatrix is my top fav. girl name at the moment, I love it!I don't get beer-tricks AT ALL, I don't even know what beer-tricks is. Maybe I pronounce it differently, but I don't say BEER-trix, I say BEE-uh-trix. I think Beatrix is spunky and classy and just awesome. It also gives me this cool old-fashioned cute feel of Beatrix Potter, so I hear the name and think of my beloved Peter Rabbit.I feel Beatrice is too old-fashioned and stuffy, and all I see is beat rice.

Although I'm fond of both names, I prefer Beatrice to Beatrix.

I like Beatrix best, but I have to admit it's mostly because I think Trixie is a fantastic nickname :-)

Beatrix! It's one of my favorite names at the moment. I just like the "-trix" ending so much better.

Where are you from? Sometimes Beatrix sounds like Beer-tricks to me too, because I have a non-rhotic accent, which means I don't say my Rs unless there is a vowel following it.I've been trying to decide which I like best lately too- I think Beatrix is winning for now, as it feels truer to it's original etymology. Although sometimes I wonder if Beatrice ages better.

Beatrixfar spunkier than sweet Beatrice. And I've loved Trixie forever (Old Trixie Belden fan here), so Beatrix wins for me.

I prefer Beatrice, the -trix part in names makes me think of dominatrix.

BeatriceI like them both. The problem is that I met a very uneducated and slutty (sorry) girl named Beatrice and a rather stupid and very conservative girl named Beatrix "Bea" at horse riding camp when I was about 14. I still remember them vividly, especially Beatrice who would tell us about her sex adventures and favorite sex positions (she was 13) uhm yeah. I met another mean girl named Beatrix "Trixie" in high school. So I have pretty bad associations with both names. However with Beatrix I can think of Beatrix Potter and with Beatrice I think of Ann Carter (child actress) who played a beautiful, wise, observing and educated little girl named Beatrice nn Bea in a 1940s movie. I just loved that character so it helped me push my negative Beatrice images aside.I prefer Beatrice and I like Bea (though I'd probably spell it Bee) as an occasional nickname. It seems more elegant than Beatrix plus you get Trixie from Beatrix which I dislike and I'd be scared people would call her that. You can't really go wrong with either but today my pick is Beatrice.I pronounce Beatrice as bay-ah-TREEZ, BAY-uh-treez or BEE-uh-tris and Beatrix as BEE-ah-trix so no beer tricks association.

Thank you - really helpful comments. I too dislike Trixie so am swaying towards Beatrice. Plus our surname is Scott and Beatrice Scott sounds better than Breatrix Scott.
Bea will definitely be her nickname - used most of the time.

I prefer Beatrice. I pronounce them differently (BEE-ə-tris and BEE-ə-triks). I just feel Beatrice looks and sounds prettier.

I much prefer Beatrice, I find the -trix in Beatrix harsh-sounding.

I prefer Beatrix. I really don't think it sounds like beer-tricks. I don't even think I've heard of that phrase before.
