The reason it would look incomplete to you without the e is you're prob'ly only used to seeing the girls' version 'cause you live in a rather non-French area where Michele/Michelle is common and Michel isn't... much like we'll often use Daniele/Danielle as a girls' name and pronounce it that way, but the French also pronounce Daniel that way on a boy. We're just not used to it if we don't have a lot of French around us.Please also take into consideration your son's situation of always having to explain the matter if you inflict him with the girls' spelling.

It would be his middle name, and it's a legit boy's name I don't think he'd have to really explain anything, but if he had to he could just say "It's the Italian version of Michael".ETA: I do agree with you about probably since Michelle is more common here I'm used to the "e". :o)
