Rain is tasteful enough on a boy but
in saying that it isn't really my thing much like Willow, River or Sky. Nice but not for me at all.
Gem names were never restricted to girls either but Amethyst is a bit of a rare one in the first place and I'd expect a bearer to be female. I'm glad it's a middle name.

I've never been a fan of the name Rain.
Way too feminine for me. It sounds nice, though.
The only Rains I've ever known have been females so, through association, when I look at the combo, I think girl. I think, in that case, I'd like it more, but to each his/her own. I've heared much worse.
