Place names are popular as pesonal names now and in the past. Africa obviously has connection to the African continent and anyone of African decent.But it is also a variant of Irish Aifric ("AF-ric"). I wouldn't expect you to know that it is also an Irish girl's name, it's pretty obscure. But the generalization of people of African decent in your response is really out of line. Who said only "black" people would use this name anyway?
