Lara

Doctor Zhivago (the film) was my first association with the name. The novel is by far my favorite book. Larisa, nn Lara has remained my favorite since I was 14. I didn't play Tomb Raider until after I first saw Doctor Zhivago, so I think my case is a bit unusual. I love Lara as a full name as well.
I have another rather odd reason for liking Lara. I found out that my aunt Laura was named after the character in the movie Laura when I mentioned to her that I got the movie for Christmas. It tickled me that I managed to pick out such a similar name from a movie as my grandmother who died when I was six. I guess I feel like it is a bit like following in her footsteps.

I love this name, and I love Lara Croft!
I pronounce Lara and Laura the same way, although I know a lot of people don't. So I think it's good to have the variant. I don't like this name pronounced LAIR-ah (like the beginning of Larry) much though, which I've heard before. I do think of Lara Croft, because I think she's awsome, but I wouldn't immediately think that the parents named the girl after her like I might with some other famous names.
I don't think of Lara Croft at all which is probably because Lara is such a popular name in Germany so I rather think of girls I know named Lara. I didn't like Dr Zhivago very much but the main character's full name was Larissa anyway. I dislike Larissa because I know a really mean girl named that but I do like Nerissa. Lara is a bit boring (so overused here) but nice. I like Laura as well. Two of my good friends are named Lara and Laura.
I like it. I think it sounds sexy, strong, and confident.
