Lara
I know it's a bit trendoid, but it's been growing on me, in spite of not liking Laura so much. WDYT? Is it too connected to Lara Croft? It's not an association I personally make at all (more the Dr Zivago character), but maybe most other people do?

Doctor Zhivago (the film) was my first association with the name. The novel is by far my favorite book. Larisa, nn Lara has remained my favorite since I was 14. I didn't play Tomb Raider until after I first saw Doctor Zhivago, so I think my case is a bit unusual. I love Lara as a full name as well. I have another rather odd reason for liking Lara. I found out that my aunt Laura was named after the character in the movie Laura when I mentioned to her that I got the movie for Christmas. It tickled me that I managed to pick out such a similar name from a movie as my grandmother who died when I was six. I guess I feel like it is a bit like following in her footsteps.

Consonant-vowel-consonant-A. Like Cara, Nina, Mila, etc. It's very dull. It doesn't make me think of Lara Croft, though, so it has that going for it.

I love this name, and I love Lara Croft!

Lara always reminds me of Lara Flynn Boyle - waifoid... don't know about trendoid...I have to disagree on Laura and say I much prefer Laura over Lara (or Lauren for that matter). It's a toss up between Laura and Laurel, but I digress...I find Lara rather boring sounding.

I pronounce Lara and Laura the same way, although I know a lot of people don't. So I think it's good to have the variant. I don't like this name pronounced LAIR-ah (like the beginning of Larry) much though, which I've heard before. I do think of Lara Croft, because I think she's awsome, but I wouldn't immediately think that the parents named the girl after her like I might with some other famous names.

Lara is a gorgeous name, and I definitely like it more than Laura, I was thinking of maybe using it for a daughter in honor of my cousin Laura. Also I love the Dr Zhivago reference. And I don't think it's trendy really at all.

It doesn't make me think of Lara Croft. I think it's beautiful. Can't decide whether I'd rather use Lara or Cara, and one day I'm gonna have to choose 'cos no way can I use both!S xx

I don't think of Lara Croft at all which is probably because Lara is such a popular name in Germany so I rather think of girls I know named Lara. I didn't like Dr Zhivago very much but the main character's full name was Larissa anyway. I dislike Larissa because I know a really mean girl named that but I do like Nerissa. Lara is a bit boring (so overused here) but nice. I like Laura as well. Two of my good friends are named Lara and Laura.

Lara is gorgeous. I like it better than the formal name it comes from, Larissa.I think of "Dr. Zhivago" and the haunting "Lara's Theme." The Croft character doesn't come to my mind at all. Then again, I'm 44.
