If I undrestand correctly, to you it is something a person is getting called all the time. I find it more... well, something you don't call a person constantly. I agree it would be disgusting (though I have seen similar situations in real life) to call Violet all the time Viola, but I can easily imagine someone calling Violet Viola from time to time. Those names have completely different auras, and in romantic-shakespearian mood I'd propably use Viola instead of Violet.

Hmm I don't care if it is used sometimes or all the time I still think that you should decide what you want to call your child and name her that if the nickname is a full name in its own right (not something cutesy or incomplete like Steph or Lulu). But I guess you could call a Violet Viola if you wanted to. It's just my opinion and I wouldn't use Viola as a nickname. Maybe that's because I'm not a big nickname person anyway...
