Nicknames for Violet
It would be great if you all could suggestion nicknames for Violet. I might want to sometimes use them for a character. You all always come up with nicknames for names I wouldn't have thought of

Violet is such a lovely name it just doesn't need a nickname. But if you really want to use one I can't really think of any except for Vy.

hmmmI think using Viola as a nn for Violet is as weird as using Sophie as a nn for Sophia. If you want to call her Viola why not just name her Viola ?

I'd say that calling Violet Viola is the same as calling Charles Carl. Violet wan't originally invented as a nickname or short form for Viola - correct me if I'm wrong.

I know that Violet isn't a nn for Viola. Did I say anything like that ? I think not.The only thing I was saying is that it's weird (in my opinion) to call someone named Violet Viola. Violet and Viola are both full names so I just think it doesn't make sense. If you want to call her Viola name her Viola if you want to call her Violet name her Violet.

I'm kind of unsure......we understand the same thing under the term "nickname". If I undrestand correctly, to you it is something a person is getting called all the time. I find it more... well, something you don't call a person constantly. I agree it would be disgusting (though I have seen similar situations in real life) to call Violet all the time Viola, but I can easily imagine someone calling Violet Viola from time to time. Those names have completely different auras, and in romantic-shakespearian mood I'd propably use Viola instead of Violet.

Hmm I don't care if it is used sometimes or all the time I still think that you should decide what you want to call your child and name her that if the nickname is a full name in its own right (not something cutesy or incomplete like Steph or Lulu). But I guess you could call a Violet Viola if you wanted to. It's just my opinion and I wouldn't use Viola as a nickname. Maybe that's because I'm not a big nickname person anyway...

I like Vie/Vi as a nickname. Lettie works too.
