Belle?
What do you think of Belle?
It has been on my mind and I cannot decide if I like it or not. I am attracted to it because of associations (largely the song in Notre Dame de Paris, which I just rediscovered), but I don't like that it's a French word but an English name (I dislike Soleil for this reason).
I also am not sure if I like the sound. It reminded me of Beauty and the Beast (another great association), which got me thinking that I like the sound of Beauty a lot more than Belle. Beauty has a nifty Puritan virtue name feel. Beauty doesn't feel usable as a name because it's so much pressure (and isn't there enough pressure to be attractive without a name to live up to?). Then again...Belle means the exact same thing. Hmm.
I need to be convinced one way or the other. So...your thoughts?

Ugh..
I hate Belle, Bella and all '-belle' or '-bella' names.
It's so frilly and girly. I can't stand it.

I love the name Belle, largely because of the movie Beauty and the Beast. I also love that it's French. Maybe you could use it for a mn instead?
I like Belle, but not enough for it to go on my list. For me it's too tied to the Disney movie. I prefer things like Mirabel, nn Bel (For some reason I like the look of Bel more than Belle, it's a bit less flouncy).
Belle is a nice name. I don't think naming a girl Belle would put too much pressure on her to be beautiful; after all, its just the meaning of the name. My name means "ewe", but I don't feel pressured to become a sheep. :)
My wording was confusing- I meant that using Beauty might put pressure, the same way people say Mercy or Patience can be restricting names. Belle less so.
I do not like Frenchwordsbutenglishnames. Beauty would be more honest.
Beauty does not inherently mean physical beauty though. I would like the middle name Beauty if I liked the phonetics more. Finding beauty [in other things, in art] is one of the most important things we can do as humans.
Belle blah
WOW! I AM SO incoherent tonight. I have a lot of other things to say about it I bet.

Thanks. This is helpful. I really don't think I like Belle outside of associations.
I like what you said about Beauty referring to finding beauty in things rather than being physically beautiful, and I think I may add it to my list as a MN. I probably will.
Thanks again.
