Message: "Carey and Carrie"

I notice whenever I suggest Carey, several people seem to say that 'Carrie' would be the female alternative (or better for a girl)

I'm from the UK, and Carey and Carrie are pronounced quite differently here, so it confused me... do they sound the same to you?

Also... any middle names for Elektra?
