Rose/Kate
WDYT of these names? I really love both but I worry that Rose might sound too old lady-ish/blah to other people. On the other hand I think it is far less common as a first name than Kate which sounds so clean and crisp and classic but I love that vintage feel to Rose. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your replies! Can I ask you (since more people seem to prefer Rose so far) what sort of girl you think of when you hear it?

I love both names, but prefer Rose for a fn and Kate for a mn in general. I think Rosie is a very sweet nn for Rose, which helps me to want to go with Rose.
I know several Kates, and no Roses. I don't think Rose sounds old-ladyish, but sounds classic and sweet. I picture a sweet little girl with a round face, pink cheeks, and straight brown hair.

I know two dozen Kate's and no Rose's
Does that answer your question?
(If not, let me be clear: go for Rose!)
I believe it was Tippins who said Kate (and don't forget the inevitable Katie!) is "every girl ever." Totally agree. What a yawn. It's the nn for every Katherine / Katharine / Catherine / Kathryn / Katelin / Katelynn / Caitlin / Caitlynn etcadnauseum I know. Done to death. Boring. Tired. Needs a rest for about 50 years.

I love both names, but prefer Kate. It's fresher.
Rose! A million times Rose.
Nope! Rose is fresh and spunky and sweet. Use it.
Kate is every girl ever. It's neat but it's also every girl ever. In the interest of balance, favor Rose.

I love both too death but I think Kate would be the victor.
I don't think Rose is too old-ladyish at all. I'd love to see it on a little girl. It's much better as a first name than in the middle name slot, where it's overused and filler-y.
Kate needs a rest. I see the appeal, but it's too worn out for me. Everybody and their mother is named/nicknamed Kate. If you must use it, I think it's far better as a nickname.

My favorite out of the two would be Kate, for the exact reasons you gave. It sounds very crisp and classy, but I'd only use it as a NN. Rose is also lovely as a FN, and I don't find it old ladyish. Then again I'm biased because my MN is Roseann, and I also had a good friend named Rose.
