1. I *heart* Aubrey - it's one of my favourite boys' names. My only little tiny thing about it is that it's a really 'pretty' name IMO. I don't mean feminine, I dislike it heartily on a girl, and I've never heard of a girl named Aubrey. My 'pretty' association comes from a book in which the name is bestowed on a baby boy and someone remarks that the name is pretty. Which is weird, but it does feel pretty to me. Not that there's anything wrong with giving a boy a 'pretty' name. *shuts up*
2. Definitely on a boy. I agree that it's handsome and sophisticated, feels very English to me too.
