As I've said before I tend to get distinct views with certain names.
My issue with
Cecilia is that it's very Catholic to me and it's also an "uppity" name to me. When I bring the name up to my parents their response is often "Well, if that isn't a hoity-toity name." And that's what bothers me the most about it - and what X and I argue the most about.
While
Cecilia has lots of amazing history and namesakes...it's just tied to a certain group of people that my family
isn't. Miriam,
Judith,
Leah,
Nina,
Rita - those my family.
Cecilia isn't. Even names that I love passionately -
Sylvia,
Magdalene,
Katarina,
Helena - fall into that category to me. I highly doubt I'd use any of them.
I know it's whacked and it doesn't make any sense. But it's just that I want my children's names to reflect the earthiness and hard-work of their ancestors.
Cecilia doesn't do that for me. The only "hoity-toity" name that I can truly see myself using is
Raphael, merely because it's the only one we agree on.
So maybe "now" isn't the best way to describe the name. Maybe it's just that the name doesn't suit me. Who knows.
