Michaela
Do you think, in an English-speaking country, there's any chance of getting people to pronounce Michaela mi-Kyle-ah not mi-Kay-la? And do you like this name?Edit - I really wouldn't consider McKayla, Makayla etc because no one is familiar with them here and I think they look too trendy. But if you prefer those, why? Is Michaela awkward looking, do you think?

I LOVE Michaela...Michaela is such a beautiful spelling - I think all the McKayla / Makayla / Mackayla spellings are awkward looking and silly.I think it would get pronounced correctly overall, and is a much classier-looking choice. I love it.

There was a British explorer called Michaela Denis whose name was pronounced the way you want, but that was before the rise of the Mikayla clan!

Probably unlikely and no, I don't think Michaela looks awkward at all. I can't stand the other spellings except Micaela which would be lovely with an Italian or Hispanic surname.

I'm not sure about your transcriptions. However I love Michaela pronounced the Latinate way, Mee-kah-eh-la and dislike it as Michael+a. I intensely dislike the variants, such as Makayla etc.

I love Michaela (but it's SO popular), but I've never heard it pronounced Mi-kyle-ah. I've only heard it pronounced Mi-kay-lah. I think that's the norm in an English-speaking country.I hate McKayla and Makayla. Michaela is the feminine form of Michael. I think the other spellings look silly.

I like this name, and I tend to be optimistic about pronunciation issues...the way I see it, it only takes one or two corrections (and as for people who mispronounce it in passing...well, you can just write off their mistakes. People mispronounce my name all the time but I don't bother to correct them if I know I'll never see them again.)
I do NOT prefer McKayla or Makayla because I agree with you that they look trendy. Michaela is not awkward looking at all in my opinion - I think the spelling is elegant, classy and feminine.

I think that people will call her Mi-Kay-la and not Mi-kyle-ah.
Maybe you should spell it MiKyleah
or maybe then they pronounce it Mi-Ky-Leah. ?

Honestly, if they have ever seen Dr. Quinn, they will automatically pronounce it Mi-kay-la. I think it will be an uphill battle all this child's life to get them to pronounce it the way you wanted them to... if you and they are ready for that battle, I say go for it, as I like this spelling so much better. Side note: My cousin's name is Chelese (Sha-leese), and inevitably, people, after reading it, will always call her Chelsea. She has battled it all her life and does not mind, as she loves her name and the reason her mother gave it to her.
