Re: Nicknames for Octavia? (and a few others?)

Ah. yes. I think we discussed our slight differences in pronounciation of ~ia endings when it came to Cecilia. But anyway.
hmmm. The concept of nicknames irks me mainly because of the planned ones on here. e.g.Ceridwen nn Poet. That is awful. But, I think my dislike of nicknames has been pressed on me by my mother, whose name is Elizabeth. I think that she simply gets very tired of all of the different things people call her, so gave my sister and I nicknameless names. Also, my father's name is Joseph nn Joe, and he had similar problems with nicknames as a child (My grandmother, bless her, thought it would be cute to call him Jody).
Cordelia. I love saying it, I think it is beautiful and melodic and really just good fun to say. However Corrie is just...kind of...well I can't quite pinpoint it but I just don't like it. I seems too close to Cory, which I don't like. I hate the cord in Cordy, and Delia is plain not my style. Lia could grow on me, but I have bad associations with Leah, so it isn't really usable.
I love Minnie to bits. I have a great-great-aunt with the name, and she is just the spunkiest 93-year-old you ever met. (Plus she often sends 20 pounds to "buy an icecream" :P) I can sort of see the appeal of Mimi, and I think it is quite cute on a little kid, but over the age of three stops being cute.
A little Adelaide nn Addy might get lost among the Addisons. Hmm but I do quite like it...I'll have to think about that.
Lucretia is alright. I can sort of see you getting hassled because of it's myth, but how many people in the general popluation are going to know that she was raped? I don't particularly like the -cre- sound in the middle, I think it sounds sort of rude. But hey.
