Re: Marian
in reply to a message by -=A=-
Marian is delightful. It has a nostalgic, retro feeling to it. Very sweet. Can you tell me the difference bewen Marian and Marion? Is one traditional male, the other female? Or are they just variants? Marion looks odder at first glance. But then I think how Isobel has grown on me and Marion could have the same effect. But I'd like to be sure of the genders / origins before I let myself drift.

I think Marion is the original female name, a variant of Mary. Marian is usually a male name, a form of Marianus, but is also used as a female name as a variant of Marion. I actually have a great-great-great-grandmother named Marion.
