Personally I think Brigham makes a better dog's name than RufusI've wanted to give the name to a bull terrier for some time now.O:-)

I love Rufus, he's somewhere in my top 20 and if I thought it fit, I'd use it in a heartbeat. I think Rufus is charming, strong and the slightest bit sweet. I'd not waste a great name like Rufus on an animal, myself. Next cat? Mongo, next dog? Kibble. Now those are animal names! :D

It is my favourite boys nameI really love the combo Rufus Aaron, but all my friends are begging me not to use it because they say it is a dogs name and any future son with the name Rufus would be teased. I think it is a shame that people think like that. :(FirChlis

I agree with you. It's a human name.

I've always loved it. Could be the name of my future son, actually.

It's a bit harsh sounding, and I can't really imagine it on someone under the age of 60.

Makes me think of a dog every time.

Love itI think it's such a nice name, but I also know most people consider it a dog's name! Then again my fave boy name is Jasper and a lot of people think that's a dog's name too! Rufus is definitely a fave of mine and something I would consider using.

I like it, but I don't take it very seriously because of Groucho Marx's character, Rufus T. Firefly in Duck Soup. I'm not much of a dog person and I know it is cliché, but I would consider Rufus (possibly even Rufus T. Firefly) if ever I had a dog. I think it is spunky.

I like Rufus. It's very handsome.Rufus reminds me of Rufus Moffat in the children's book series by Eleanor Estes (one of them is Rufus M.). Rufus has three older siblings named Sylvia (Sylvie), Joseph (Joey), and Jane (Janey).

My first thought is "dog", and my second is "Wainwright" ...
it's an alright name, and I especially like the nn Ru, but it's too associated with dog for me to actually consider it.

Ick ick ick ick ick ick ick.
Even slobbering shaggy dog images aside, it sounds hideous to my ears, and gives off a bum-like image (I guess the human equivalent of a slobbering shaggy dog.)
I like Rudolph a trillion times more.

LoveLove love love for Rufus. It is my second favorite Ru- name, next to Rudolph. Rufus nn Rudy is my fixture of choice, and my fantasy Rufus sibset is Rufus Dragon and Edgar Hart.Oh I think it is so neat. It is dumb that it's a dog name. It is very Roman and... idk, handsome. It is one of my faves and if I didn't love Rudolph so much I could definitely see myself shortlisting it.ETA: I like Rudolph and Rufus but not Rupert and Reuben.

Wainwright. And the dad from Gossip Girl, one of my favorite guilty pleasures. *g*Trivial associations aside, I rather like Rufus. It feels dorky and slightly prissy, yet earthly and likable at the same time. I don't know if I'd use it personally, but I'd love to meet a hypothetical Rufus. I think it's a fine name.

Dog name.Like Bailey and Maggie and Jake, it always reminds me of a dog's name. I think it's completely unattractive besides. I don't like the 'oof' and I rarely like names ending with an 'us' sound. All around not for me.

I like it, but I prefer Rupert. Rupert sounds lesss like a dogs name (IMO) (I know, I know, Rupert the bear, but that doesn't bother me so much...:)Would you like combos? Here are some anyway, I like making them!Rufus Algernon
Rufus Dashiell
Rufus Konstantin
Rufus Massimo
