Wilhelmina
I'm curious as to why the writers of Ugly Betty decided to use the name Wilhelmina for a particularly unpleasent character. How do you percieve this name? I personally prefer the pronunciation of wil-hell-MEE-na than willo-mee-na. I think its a nice, strong name. What do you think?
(somebody clearly had a thing for unusual german names, Wilhelmina, Hilda.)

I don't watch "Ugly Betty" but love Wilhelmina (I say Will-ah-meen-a). My daughter was almost Wilhelmina. it just didn't mesh for her but it's on the table for the next one, should it be a girl. I love it that much, yes.
I love the sound of will-ah-MEE-nah. wil-hel-MEE-nah is decent but hard for me to say. I don't care for the look of it written down, though.
I love it - I work with a woman named Wilhelmina who is from the Netherlands. I think it's a beautiful name, and I don't have any negative associations of it.

Aah...the dreaded middlename. I absolutely can't stand it but that's just a personal thing.
I think that Wilhelmina is a really good name for the character (and not just because I hate it!) I think that it's sleek and elegant and modern without sounding at all trenty; it's trendsetter. Although she isn't a nice character a hideous granny name like (sorry if I offend anyone) Ethel wouldn't work and neither would something trendy like Madison. Wilhelmina, is just perfect IMO.

I think Wilhelmina is very old-fashioned (btw so is Hilda) so I'm surprised it's used in a modern TV show anyway.
Maybe because it is a strong name. Wilhelmina is an unpleasant character, but she is strong.
I don't watch "Ugly Betty." I'm disappointed they would use such a beautiful name as Wilhelmina for an unpleasant character. (I've been trying to free Ursula from that silly mermaid cartoon association for years but it hasn't worked yet.)
I love Wilhelmina, but I say, "willa-MEE-nuh." Wilhelmina Alice / Alix is my favorite combination.
