I just now finalized my Cordelia combo and am proud.
I am so glad. No more agonizing. This is it. I am so chuffed. This is mainly a celebratory post, as I doubt many people would give their approval of it, and I doubt that I would revise it according to their criticisms. Nevertheless, I would love to hear them! It is as follows:Cordelia Tippins ThomasinaBefore everyone begins to resent me because Thomasina is not as good a name as Adelaide, Augusta, or Melete, I shall now explain why I have chosen it.1. My other top three (Oh boy! I will post them! Simon Francis Benedict, Minerva Maria Cecilia, and Rudolph Hugo Laurentius) are packed with honoring. Adelaide would honor my grandmother Adele and my godmother Alice, but I really prefer it as a first name. Thomasina is for my English teacher, which is important because
2. Cordelia, I always convince myself, can honor Cory. I hate the name Cory more than almost every other name except for maybe Kyle. However, my excellent 10th grade history teacher who has become a very close friend and a generally influential figure in my life is called Cory. I have an English teacher this year who is simply amazing and whose surname is Thompson. Thomasina, I insist, can honor Thompson.
3. Besides, Thomasina is the name of the main-ish character in Arcadia, which is a play we read that I really, really, really liked and has become pretty much the motif for my senior year. Because of her, Thomasina has grown on me from being utterly ridiculous to being kind of neat.
4. I rather enjoy the assonance of Tippins Thomasina, thank you very much.So I am chuffed with this (at the moment, at least) because it honors two of the most important non-familial people in my life, and it has Tippins which I regard as very significant and important to pass down (it is my middle name for those of you that don't know, and it was my great-grandmother's maiden name). And, well, I love Cordelia. And if she thinks it's too much (I don't think it is), she can go by any or all of a multitude of nicknames.I am so glad.
......
My husband better have relatives with all these names and also agree with me 100% on all of them.I'm not quite sure CTT has the poetry I require from my other tops, but I still love it.Simon, Minnie, Rudy, Cordelia. Not too over the top at all, IMO. And prepare to be impressed if you ask their middle names!*parading over*

Congratulations! *applauds enthusiastically* It's a great combo, and I think it's perfect for you, just the right mix of meaning, beauty, and old-fashioned heft. Well done.BTW, your honoring logic makes perfect sense to me. It's very much how I come up with my honoring names, too.

I like the name Thomasina, it's pretty and underused. I think of the Beatrix Potter character, Thomasina Tittlemouse if I think of anyone. I actually studied Arcadia at university but can't remember it at all so I think I'll go and dig out my copy. I also like Minerva nn Minnie. There was a family on Wife Swap the other day and this was the name and nickname of one of their daughters. (The other sibs had more common names like Holly, Joseph, Daniel, Isaac and another I can't remember).

LOL Minerva-Minnie is QUITE out of place there. All nice names though.Oh Arcadia is so very wonderful! It is so wonderful.

I know a lot of people don't like Thomasina, but I do. Cordelia Thomasina's quite pretty. Tippins isn't quite my favorite paired with the two, but the assonance of Tippins Thomasina is a bit catchy.Just a random thought - if you ever wanted to use Tippins more prominently, Tippy makes quite a good nickname for a girl. Makes me think of Tippy Hendren.

LOL @ TippyI have an aunt called Mary Tippins "Tippy." I think it's incredibly cute. I do like Tippins and Tippy quite a lot, but I don't think I'd use it as a FN just because... well, it's a surname, and I love too many other names to ever shortlist it. Thanks for the suggestion, though, I do dig Tippy quite a lot.

Arcadia! Thomasina! Tom Stoppard! *head explodes*I adore the name Thomasina because of that play. I love, love that play (and everything the man has ever written) and the character is amazing. Cordelia is just beautiful. The whole combination is excellent. I really, truly love it. They're wonderfully matched in style, though Cordelia is of course more usable. Tippins fits the style but sounds very different, so the name doesn't sound as repetitive and odd as Cordelia Thomasina would. I love the honouring. It's so, so, so beautiful. If I was your husband, I wouldn't fight you on these names at all. I promise you, that's not exageration. I love all your top combinations.Sorry for the excess gushing...

I am going to send you a very long PMabout Arcadia.
It is a lot longer now than I thought it was going to be and it might take you a very long time to read it. Feel free to disregard it.

Didn't get a PM from you...Did you decide not to send it after all, or is my inbox being strange?I'd like to read it, though it might take me a while.

I haven't sent it yetI was not kidding when I said it was long. I am about halfway done with it now, LOL. It has evolved into kind of an epic chronicle of... my boring life. You may be totally uninterested! Anticipate it sometime tonight or tomorrow.
