Re: Shayna and Shani

I love both the sound and meaning of Shayna. It's sometimes spelled Sheine and Jeanette or Jane were often used as anglicised approximations of it by girls from Yiddish-speaking families.
In Hebrew the equivalent in meaning is Yaffa.
There's a variant, Shayndel (Sheindel), the name of someone I know.
Shani means "scarlet" in Hebrew and evokes the legend of the "scarlet thread".
I love Shayna.
