Re: Again, why?
I've never read LotR or seen the films in their entirety, but I know perfectly well that Eowyn is a female character. Especially after the films, pretty much everyone is familiar with LotR stuff. And that you don't know about Miles Davis does not cancel the fact that a lot of people know about him and will consider the name masculine.
I hope I don't come across as being rude, but you can't keep imagining that if you don't get a certain reference it doesn't matter, or just rely on the fact that in your mind a few people won't get a reference and therefore it doesn't matter.Anyway, as Siri said, I too can tollerate a female Miles (our own BtN Miles seems ok enough with it), but naming a boy Eowyn is like naming him Hermione or something.

I'm not looking for a certain reference I'm just saying I never heard of Miles Davis. As for Eowyn I highly doubt not because it'f feminine but for the fact people don't really know how to say it correctly, lol I do have it on my list for both genders though. I too think whenver I see Eowyn = LoTR automatically and I very well know who the character is but being a female character doesn't bother me "maybe" it would my son in some ways but it's only due to the double standard of society when it comes to names sadly [girls = weak, boys = strong thing].It's usually the younger generations who know who the character is that's all I was meaning by it. I just don't see what's wrong with having a feminine name on a boy but girls can have boys names which are more "acceptable".I don't mind people having those references at all when it comes to Eowyn or Miles but for me personally it doesn't bother me what type of reference it is as long as it's not bad or have a bad meaning.ETA: Just to let you know I'd use Eowyn on a girl before I'd use it on a boy. I'd probably end up pronouncing Eowyn e-oh-wyn for a boy anyways which is the wrong pronounciation. I have seen an Arwen on a few boys though.is there any other names that look like Eowyn for a boy (I dislike Owen, Eion, I used to like Ewan no longer now). I do agree though that is is like naming him Hermione. I'll probably save it for my sims.

Kids GROW upAnd Miles Davis is a widely known jazz artist - and is considered to be a genius by the majority of people. When she's an adult she will be asked - repeatedly - if she was named after Miles Davis.Ditto Eowyn.

This is very trueBut since I WAS named after Miles Davis it doesn't bother me. I'm not sure how I would take it if I wasn't.

I find that funny, actuallyWhile Miles Davis was a genius at music he was also one of the meanest, craziest, and misogynist men ever. Still love his music, though.

Yeah, he wasn't the greatest human being on earth. but, well, what can ya do. Though, (mostly because of my name) If I were to name a child after someone I'd try to make sure that said namesake wasn't mad as a hatter :-)
