Gemma???????
A lot of the time I pronounce Gemma gem-ah (with a g, of course) instead of jem-ah (with a j)and lately I’ve stared to like that pronunciation better so I was wondering do you think Gemma can be pronounced gem-ah instead of jem-ah?

The word "gem" is pronounced JEM, not GHEM, so why would would pronounce the first part differently just because -ma was added onto the end? That and GHEM-mah, is very unnattractive sounding to me.

Ok, Gemma is definitely supposed to be pronounced with the J sound! With the G sound, it just sounds plain wrong and really not very nice either.
What is the difference between g and j? Do you mean one is hard and one is soft? I have only ever heard it pronounced like the word "gem" with "uh" on the end. It's a very pretty name and shouldn't be messed with!

I love this name pronounced as gem-ah. Jem-ah is too cute.
no, i dont think that works. It just doesnt sound right.
1. You can pronounce a name anyway you want.
2. I much prefer it said Gem-ah. If you like jem-ah then use that though. I have a friend named Gemma she says it with a "G" sound. I've never heard of a "J" sound for it.

really?
I've never heard it with a hard G sound before. That sounds incorrect to me, but I agree, you could pronounce a name anyway you wanted really.

1. That strikes me as terribly ignorant. If I were to just hear someone prn it that way, I would definitely cringe. I see that you do know it is "incorrect," so it's not the case, but it would be my first impression. I hate saying "correct" since names are slightly more fluid than the average vocab word, but I do think that this would pretty much defy the phonetic structure of an entire language.
2. It reminds me gamma, like radiation, when prn that way.
