Kiel
I've noticed lately that my last name, Kiel, has become semi-popular as a FN. I've also noticed that it is being pronounced wrong. The correct pronunciation is KEEL, but many people pronounce it KYLE. So my question is, how do you pronounce Kiel?

I pronounce it 'KEEL'- like the German city Kiel?
I know one Kiel, aged about 29 who pronounces it KYLE. The first time I saw it written down (before I'd heard it said) I assumed that it was prn KYLE, although that was mainly probably because I'd never meet anyone with a name prn KEEL.
Oddly enough, the mix of Kyle & Kiels was pretty equal all being pronounced the same at my high school. Personally, I think it is in that odd ground with names like Laila that will always been pronounced differently, but I'd never use it. Kyle is simple & straight forward, just as I wouldn't use Kiley though I quite like Kylie.
There was a Kiel in my year at school. He'd be about 23 now. He pronounced it Keel, although I can see how it could be seen as being pronounced as Kyle.
So, I'd pronounce it as Keel, but that's because I've met one before. I'm not sure how I'd pronounce it if I hadn't. Probably if I realised it was German, then Keel; if I didn't, Kyle.
There was a Kyle in the same year and everyone mixed their names up.

i pronounce it KEEL but i see where people are coming from when they think KYLE. it could be either way, i guess, but i wouldn't use it
I've never seen it before as a name. I would have said "keel," though.
