WDYTO Lilias?
I was thinking about what I would call my hypothetical future daughter yesterday, and currently Lilias is top of my list. I absolutely love this name, but I wondered what impressions other people get? Can you imagine it on a child and adult, does it seem old fashioned etc? And do you think people might be apt to stress the second syllable too much and she would get teased? (bearing in mind I'm not in America) For her middle names, do you like the combo Lilias Mara?
I would want to honour my grandmother Mary but I don't like Mary at all. (any other suggestions are welcome)
Thanks :)

Lilias is very pretty, and I think it'd be perfectly nice for a girl of any age.Lilias Mara is fine, but I wish I could sell you on Lilias Mary. That's a combo that couldn't possibly be improved upon, in my mind. It just brings to mind all the best aspects of the romanticized image of Scotland, for me--the lovely highland lass in a field of heather, auburn hair and all. But I'm a hopelessly romantic American, so what can one expect? ;)Other ideas:Lilias Maria
Lilias Maren (MAHR-en, not MARE-in)
Lilias Maura, Lilias Moira
Lilias Marian
Lilias MarlaArray

lol, I love the American impression of Scotland. I kind of know what you mean, but I'm not sure I can get over my objections to Mary, sorry.
Lilias Maren is very nice and you made me think of another name I like Muireann.
hmm Lilias Muireann might be a bit too much though...

I understand--similarly, all the pleading in the world will never make me like the name Anna. ;)Lilias Muireann is very pretty, honestly. And since Lilias' pronunciation is fairly intuitive, I think you could get away with Muireann.Array

Lovely Scottish nameI don't know why you think she would be teased?I think Lilias Mara sounds fine but why not go all Scottish and use the Scottish form Mairi: Lilias MairiLilias Marie is another option, flows well (Marie as second name flows well with almost every first name).Lilias Maria is another possibility.

I thought people might pronounce it Lily-ASS or at least other kids might! I do like Lilias Mairi, thanks. Although I think Mara has a certain Scottish flavour too, especially as Mara means 'sea' in Gaelic. One of my reasons for choosing it was that it can mean this, rather than 'bitter'

I love Lilias! It's such a wonderful change from all the other Lil names that have become so mundane in recent years.
I can definitely see it aging well and can't think of any reason why it would be anymore subject to teasing than another name. My instinct is to pronounce it LIL-ee-us. Is that right?
Lilias Mara is gorgeous. I'm not typically a huge fan of Mara (as I feel it lacks personality) but it really does work well in this combo! (I'm not big on mary either.)

Yes I pronounce it LIL-ee-as but the a is quite undefined so nearly -us if you know what I mean.
Normally I would have exactly the same impression of Mara, and I wouldn't use it as a first name, but It seems different as a middle name, especially as an honouring name.
