There's a mom on my birth board with a little girl named Kaia.
I checked it on here, and it said it was a Norwegian version of Katerina.
Is it trendy? Opinions, please!

I think it's quite trendy--it's short and sweet and old-fashioned like Ella and Ava, it starts with a K, and it has the EYE sound in it.

I adore it only as a nickname for Katherine or Katarina, though. I say KIE-ah.

I would pronounce it KYE-uh. I think it's steadily growing in popularity, but wouldn't say it's got as far as "trendy" yet. I think it's very pretty.

KY UH (EYE + the K)

I like it, my DH is Kyle and while the name wouldn't honour him per say, its close to Kylie but seems like it will age better.

I think it's cute. I know a Kaia and I've always liked her name. She pronounces it kye-uh/ah. So the "kai" should rhyme with "dye" She's in her early twenties now and she's the only one I've ever met with the name. I don't think it's too trendy.

I pronounce it KIE-uh. I have a friend who goes by Kia (her real name is Giovanna) and hates it being mispronounced (as KEE-uh, like the car).

I don't really like it, and it's a little trendy, but still is dufferent, although, she would get mixed in with the Maya's and Mya's which are really common.

Would it honor someone named Katrina?

My mom's name is Katrina. However, I live in south Louisiana, and the name Katrina has some VERY negative connotations right now. Do you think Kaia would work? Just a thought.

No.

Kaia sounds very different to me compared to Katrina. It may have some of the same letters, but I don't think it fits really.

Don't let a hurricane ruin a name for you. It already ruined the lives of others. If you want to use the name Katrina, use it. Chances are, most people will stop connecting the name Katrina to the hurricane within the next few years.

However, if Kaia is your way of honoring your mother, then no one can change that. :]

It's not a well-known connection ala Maggie & Margaret, but there is a connection.

Kaia to Kaja to Katarina to Katherine AND

Katrina to Katherine.

I'd say it KIE-a. It's quite pretty, I've heard of it before but I've never met anyone with the name here in New Zealand, probably because kai is the Maori word for food, and most New Zealanders would know this word whether they spoke Maori or not.

Love Kaia! KY-a, not KEE-a and yes it is a derivative of Katherine. I don't thinks its trendy, yet, but I know most people on this board prefer it as a nn to say Katarina or something

I've known a couple of girls named Kaia here in Australia. It's pronounced KIE-uh (ie = eye) here.

I don't like it, to me it's a typical trendoid 'K' girls' name, like Kayla and Kaylee and Kellie and Keira.

That's pretty, yet interesting without being kre8tyvve. Similar to Maia, but not.
