What's wrong with Louisa?
in reply to a message by Isla
I like Louisa...much better than Luisa. Some people may think it a tad old-fashioned, but is that a valid reason to use Luisa, which is horrible?

The problem--for me, at least--is that she says it unequivocally: Luisa is bad, badbadbad, and it's clearly lesser than English Louisa. The way her post reads to me suggests that either she thinks Luisa is one of those newfangled misspellings, which is quite ignorant, or that it's just not as good as Louisa, which is ethnocentric.I'm all for the disliking of names and the admitting to disliking names that you really find ick, for whatever reason. After all, look at my reaction to Harlow (namely JESUS CHRIST IT'S A LION GET IN THE CAR), as just one example. But to me, scholasticastewart came off less as "I don't like this name," and more "This spelling has no inherent value," which I'm hoping we can all agree simply isn't true.Array

OT...The JESUS CHRIST ITS A LION GET IN THE CAR thing made me crack up laughing. I've never really heard that other than on the other forum I go on a lot.Look at this drawing I made (where I oh so explicitly labeled it. XP) : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v603/Kalianna/IMG_0047.jpg

It's one of my favourite phrases at the moment--I've been a Toothpaste for Dinner fan for a good four, five years now, and that's one of my favourite strips.(Reference, for those who aren't so familiar with it: http://www.toothpastefordinner.com/083005/basic-electronics-symbols.gif):DArray

Personally, this is my favorite 'image' for that phrase
(But I'm not even slightly "intellectual", lol.)

Umm...That's a bit like hearing about a baby named Jane and asking, "But what wrong with Joan?" Well, nothing, but it's not the name they chose.Luisa is a legitimate variant, and it's pronounced a little differently. I personally prefer Louisa, but Luisa is certainly not horrible.
