Rufus?
DH and I both love this name- I know many don't but we are both quite smitten with it. My question is whether or not you think the meaning 'redhaired' is too much considering DD is Scarlett. Do you think the general population knows the meaning of the name? Our child has a large chance of being redheaded (as Scarlett is) and I don't want it to seem too 'red'. The combo we have is Rufus Gordon Campbell- both mn's are family names.

I LOVE this name!Rufus has been a fave of mine for years, I'd go for it, especially if he will probably have red hair! Trust me the general population has no idea what names mean, so I wouldn't worry about that at all!

I do like Rufus. It's a warm name and it makes me think of Rufus Wainwright, whom I love. Its biggest negative for me is that it also makes me think of roofie, slang for the date rape drug. It's funny. I've always considered Rufus to be one of the most obviously "red" of the red meaning names. To me, the connection between Rufus and Scarlett is like a big, red flag--not subtle at all.

I was afraid someone would say that- Do you really think the general population knows about its meaning though? I woud be really surprised if they did. I also have a step-daughter Natasaha so it wouldn't be like they all had 'red' names.
Thoughts?

I like Rufus, largely because of Rufus Wainwright and Rufus Sewell, and maybe they're both why the name seems more 'usable' to me than it does to others. I think it's an excellent name. I didn't know it meant red-haired until you mentioned it, and it does seem a tiny bit theme-y with Scarlett. But you haven't spelled it Scarlet, so I really don't think it's too cutesy at all. ;)http://www.rufuswainwright.com/http://www.aboutrufus.com/

I'm really starting to like Rufus. I used to only think of it as a dog name, but recently it's been sounding better. I also like Rupert, which I used to hate.
I love the subtle link that Rufus and Scarlett have and think that they would make a fabulous sibset. Rufus Gordon Cambel is great!

I really like the name Rufus and I don't think that the red haired meaning is too obvious. The names Rufus and Scarlett go beautifully together.

Rufus and Scarlett make a good sibset; however, I don't like the name Rufus itself. I feel really bad saying this but it reminds me of the word "doofus" and it makes me think of a dog. =/

It reminds me of the dad from Gossip Girl and of mole rats. :] Personally, I don't like it.

It reminds me of GG, too. mBut I like it for that reason, since I love the character on the show. :PI think Rufus goes wonderfully with Scarlett, and the meaning is subtle enough to be cute with feeling cheesy when the two are placed side-by-side. Rufus Gordon Campbell is a little aristocratic sounding, but it still feels down-to-earth and pleasant enough to balance any stuffiness. It gets a thumbs up from me.ETA: It also reminds me of Rufus Wainwright, who I don't have any particular association with except that his sister sang a beautiful song with one of my favorite bands, Snow Patrol. So I guess that makes him cool by association, lol.

When I heard it on Gossip Girl I was wondering whether it would start to rise in popularity.I think it is safe at the moment and I do like the name. I think Rufus and Scarlett work well together.

Campbell is my husband's Scottish clan name- all male members of his family have it as a middle name etc. so although I don't like surnames as names, I think it works - Thanks for your response and positive comments re: Rufus- DH and I do quite enjoy it:)

! I like ita lot as a brother for Scarlett. I had no idea what Rufus meant until you told me and now I really like the set. It's a subtle link and I'm all for subtle links. It's not exactly my favorite ever, but I do like it quite a lot. I like a lot of Ru- and Ro- names. You could possibly call him Rudy if you wanted too, too, and I like Rudy despite how much it sounds like Rude. And I really love Rufus Gordon Campbell. It just sounds fabulous. Perfect. I'm really torn on all of your girls' names because I really love just about all of them, which is why I haven't commented on them much :P But I really support Rufus Gordon Campbell for the brother.

Thanks:) I really appreciate your comment and I agree that the subtle link might be kind of sweet...I suppose I still have 9 months to think about it but I do really love Rufus and the combo rolls off the tongue quite nicely I think-
Thanks again!
