I pronounce it LEE-dan, but I expect some people would say it lee-AH-dahn from just looking at it.

I say it Lee-a-daun( I spell it Liadán). That's the way Irish people would say it actually. It a pretty unusual name here though. I don't understand where the Lee-din prn comes from - they sound quite different in my accent. (It's one of my favourite girls names. I don't care for Lee or Dawn though so that's a problem for me.)

Just by looking at it, I would have said LEE-a-dan, that is, until I visited BtN. Now, knowing that it's LEE-dan, I still think it looks like LEE-a-dan. ;-) Pretty name.

I prn it Lee-din; I prefer it that way. I think here in the U.S. most people would say Lee-ah-dan though.

If i ever have a daughter this name is front runner right now. I prn it with a slight "ah" sound but if you say it fast enough it can sometimes sound like LEE-din too. I noticed Link said that the nn Lee cheapens it (or something close to that) and I have previously acknowledge that I would use it myself from time to time but I think if you look at the reality of the situation you may not always call your children by their full name. Say you had a Josephine running around. I doubt you would call her by her full name every single time you needed something, or rather, if you were in a hurry or angry. She may get called Jo from time to time. That is the only reason I list Lee beside the name. It is not what she would be called the majority of the time.

to sum haha....I love this name in both pronunciations because they are so close. The nn doesn't matter as it is you who will be saying it the most, so choose what you like best.

I always thought it was Lee-ah-dan.

In Ireland, you'll find it pr. Lee-ah-dahn in most places. Which, I MUCH prefer. In the US, I suspect it will be pr. the way the mom pronounces it. From the written word, I also think it would be pronounced phoenetically: Lee-ah-dahn, but some might get lazy and contract it to Lee-din.
I think its lovely, but don't like the nn Lee, as it seems to cheapen it somehow.

I, too originally pronounced it Lee-AH-din before I looked at how it should be said. I'm not sure if that's exactly how you pronounced it, but it's close. It took me a while to start liking it as LEE-din, but it's grown on me and is now a favorite of mine. In the USA I'm sure that it would be pronounced Lee-AH-din/dahn because most of society is not as name-nerdy as we are lol. But simply correcting them should do the job. Hey, it works for my name!
