Charlie
I love Charlie, but I hate Charles. I have bad associations with it.Can anyone think of anything else this could be a nickname for? I want a good, solid name for him to fall back on.

I think Charlie is fine on its own if you wanted it to be. I likethe name Charon. Charlie can be short for Charon. Also, Charlton like mentioned by someone else. Also, if you ever had a little girl you could name her Charlotte and call her Charlie.

I like it as a nn for Richard...although that seems to be too much of a stretch for most people. LOL

Chester, Carl/Carlo/Carlos, Caradoc, Carsten?

Charlton would be my fave, because I don't like the name Charles either. I actually prefer Charlie just on it's own, as a full name.

Heh, first thing that comes to mind is Charlie the Unicorn. It's up to you to decide wheather that's a good thing or not. (o:Now, for other name alternatives...
Carlton
Carter (at a stretch)Hmmm... that's all I can think of. Do you like either of them?

How about Carles or Carl/Karl? And there's always Charlemagne, but that's kind of weighty, if you know what I mean.

I think Charlie is beautiful on its own personally.

Charlton?

That sounds like a word for a bad person.

You're thinking of charlatan.Charlatan is a quack, but it's pronounced SHAR-luh-tn. Charlton is pronounced with the CH sound, CHAR-el-ton, as in Charlton Heston.
