I've always liked the name a lot. I think it would be great on a little girl these days. It also suits an adult, which is important. It doesn't remind me too much of a penny, but we don't have them here in Australia! I really don't like Penelope either and to me, Penny can stand on it's own, no problems. It has enough spunk to be fine as a full name. Pennie looks terrible imo! Penny is just fine and looks nice, but Pennie just doesn't seem right. Penny Violet is really nice, I like it a lot. It's funny you brought this name up, because I just heard it a couple of days ago and it got me thinking about it again!

I like Penny(this spelling) as a nn. It could stand as a full name, but I definitely prefer it as a nn.

Naw, Penny's too cutesy as a full name. It's a wonderful nickname, though. Some other names you could use as full names if Penelope's not your taste:

On spelling: Pennie is infinetly more cutesy than Penny, doubling that problem (it's cutesy even as a nickname) and it looks wrong to me. When I look at it, I mentally red-pen it so it reads "Penny". Plus, Penny looks classier and smoother to me. I think Penny is the way to go. But it doesn't really matter, if it's a nickname, which way you prefer, since the kid usually chooses how to spell their nickname if there's a choice involved.

I really dislike Penny, though I love Penelope (my fav. nn's for it are Ellie, Ella, Nell, Nellie & Poppy). As for Pennie, this spelling doesn't bother me too much because I had a friend growing up named Penelope Renee nn Pennie. :)

As for combos, I wouldn't use another word name if using the Penny spelling. Penny Violet is a bit like a flower sold for 1 cent. :b Also, I'm not big on nicknames-as-formal-names in general, so the same goes with Penny/Pennie. As for what else Penny could be a nn for, all I can come up with is Aspen (which I really dislike), Penka, and Peninnah.

I have a sister named Penny. She is almost 15 years my senior and I think most people would think I'm older (without meeting us) because her name sounds so sweet and forever young. It's not her real name, btw. That's Leona Dale. Penny earned her nn as a child because she would change her allowance into pennies; it made her feel like she had more money. Anyway, the nn stuck. I love the sound of Penny, but I'm the sort of person who prefers full names on the birth certificate. BTW, Penny hates Penelope so that's why she's never legally made the change. Still, I call her Penelope from time to time and insist that my next puppy will be named Penelope after my sister. ;-)

Penny Violet (this spelling only) is nice. Still, I'd rather see Penelope Violet. It would be quite distinctive.

I like Penny. I guess it seems like it could be a full name on its own because I know a Penny.

I've knowna few women named Penny, and as far as I know, it wasn't a nn for anything.

I'm not a fan of it on a person. My mother has a little Yorkie and Bichon mix named Penny, so I associate it with dog names. lol

Penny is ok as a name as it is, Penny used to be a valuable piece of money, so i think that's why it became so popular amongst the early 20th century poor in england. Along with Tupence.

I tend to dislike nns as full names on principle, because it's not giving your child a choice. Penny is not too childish as nns go, but it does feel incomplete.
If you don't like Penelope, the only other full name that could work that I can think of at the moment is Peninnah.

I have to say...Penny is the least nicknamish nickname in the history if nicknames, I think. It has everything that a "full name" has and definitely does not need Penelope to accompany it.

Pennie is silly in my opinion. I hate the Lucies, the Hollies, the Amies and Pennie is no different.
