Japanese names
My DH and I are expecting our first in July, and we've already decided on first names, Rowan for a boy, and Lily for a girl. Now, Kai, *the DH* is into Ninjitsu, a form of martial arts, and very into the Japanese culture and whatnot, no problem, right? Well he wants to saddle our kids with Japanese middle names....Our last name is VERY British, and you've seen the first names we're choosing. Now neither of us are even remotely Asian, so I'm kinda at a point where I want to tell Kai he's being stupid, or just ride it out and let him name them::Rowan Kagero M.Lily Rumiko M.What do you guys think?I just think it's gonna look weird with a britishy first name, a japanese middle name and a very British last name....

I think there are Japanese names that would sound a bit better with Rowan and Lily (I have no probs with using names from other countries, so that in itself isn't an issue for me, despite the British LN)Rowan Kagero is ok, Lily Rumiko could use improvement imo. What about:
Rowan Kenshin
Rowan Kenta
Rowan Taro (I like this best)
Rowan Ken Lily Ayame
Lily Manami
Lily Mariko
Lily Mio
Lily Momoko
Lily Noa
Lily Ren
Lily Sayuri (Means small Lily in Japanese)
Lily Sora
Lily Suzume

I totally agree with what Array said. You shouldn't feel like you need to limit your naming options to those that "fit" in culturally with your last name.
With that said, I'm not a fan of Kagero, but Lily Rumiko is adorable! I love it!

I think that in a multicultural world such as our own, it's ridiculous to say "Oh, our surname isn't Japanese enough for a Japanese name." If you were going to name your daughter Colette, you wouldn't worry about the fact that your surname isn't French enough, would you?I think Lily Rumiko is really pretty. I'm not all that fond of Kagero, so I don't dig Rowan Kagero nearly as much. But both names are fine, and I would love to see either in the BAs.Array

Rowan Kagero M. - I'm not sure, hor to pronounce this, but it looks pretty.
Lily Rumiko M. - I'm not a big fan of Lily, but Rumiko makes it better.
