Opinions on Beau

It's a word, not a name to me. "Handsome" or "Boyfriend" seems a terribly odd thing to call a person...particularly the boyfriend meaning, as that's used in English. It also sounds just insubstantial. I would so much prefer Robert nn Bo, pronounced pretty much the same.
I think it seems sort of overbearing and vain, with a tinge of childishness. Why? I dunno. Probably because of the meaning and the twee slang term for boyfriend. I had an encounter with a Texan guy named Beau many years ago, and it didn't do anything for my impression of the name, either.
I went to school with a boy named Beau for a few years. Man, was he cute. So I tend to kinda like the name...

To me 'beau' is an adjective. It seems a bit insubstantial to me, personally, but I don't think it is a horrible name.
I don't mind it; it's nms, but it doesn't bother me on someone else.
i have a baby cousin named Beau and I love it! i love the meaning and the way it sounds.....but i may be slightly biased!
It's just very nickname-y to me--like Buddy or Skip. It's also another name for "boyfriend". 'That's her beau, isn't he cute?' Very Little-House-on-the-Prairie, but akin to calling your son Guy, which I've always found a little strange. LOL. :b
It's not a horrible name, but I only see it as a nn, for one thing, though I have seen it used as a 'formal' name. I've only met one real Beau, and he was the bratty son of the preacher from the church where I grew up (he'd be in his teens now, I think). He was James Jr., and James Sr. was often called Jimbo growing up so he thought it'd be cute to call his son Bo, but they preferred the Beau spelling. Bo makes me think of B.O. (as in 'body odor') and it's always a somewhat prevalent soap opera name. :b

Well I'm one of the people that doesn't like it. I never have. I don't think it sounds very masculine and I also hate the way it looks. Just don't like it at all.
I love Beau! Isabeau is also on of my favorite girl's names...I pretty much like most 'beau' names.
I kind of like the name Beau because of its meaning.
