BTW, Pleasant and Angelorum make for fabulous mns. I never would've thought of them. Are you at all concerned that Michael and James are a bit pedestrian compared to your other mns?
Not particularly. I try to go for a balance of names generally considered "normal" and names generally considered rather "out there", so I wouldn't feel too bad about having sons like
Morpheus Michael and
Nathaniel Pleasant or daughters like
Katharine Angelorum and
Ruxandra Mary. Each combo has a "normal" name (though if it's in the FN spot, there's a good chance that my preferred nickname for it isn't all that common), and each combo has a "weird" name. Both names appeal to me a great deal--a lot of the "normal" ones are family names, and being named after my father (
Michael) or my grandfather (
James) offers as cool of explanations as being named after a favourite book character (
Ptolemy) or graphic novel heroine (Evey).
If little Ruxi grew up and demanded to be
Mary, I wouldn't be unhappy agreeing to call her that. Similarly, if
Simon grew up and felt more like a
Clair, I'd be equally pleased to refer to him by his middle name. If that makes sense? :)
Thanks for your comments!
