Re: Mia?
in reply to a message by Lola
It's a close call, but yes I can see Mia as a name on its own. If you don't like Amelia as a full name, there's always: Maria / Mariana / Miriam, Marisa, Emilia, Miranda, Artemisia, Demetria, Serafima, Euphemia, Melina, Philomena, Wilhelmina, Armina, Mireia, Marcelline, Melisande, Ameliane, Dominique, Marguerite, Mira, Mayim ("mah-EEM"). I don't think Edie can stand on its own though. I love Edith, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. Other names that could serve as a full name for Edie: Ida ("EE-da"), Aida ("ah-EE-da"), Edina, Edwina, Bridget, Frieda / Freda / Elfreda, Freedom, Enid, Edel ("ee-DEL," or "eh-DEL," my Irish cousin's name), Egidia (Greek name and name of old Scottish queen), Leda, Liadan ("LEE-uh-din).I know that there's an Irish form of Bridget / Brigid pronounced "breed," but I'm not sure of the spelling. Also, I met a woman in Ireland recently named Breda ("BREE-da"), a form of Bridget / Brigid.
