BtN's favourite names - RESULTS
Total number of responses = 149
Total number of names = (149 x 10) = 1490 - 1 = 1489
Total number of names per gender = (149 x 5) = 745 boys, 744 girls
* note: one poster was one girls name short, hence the differenceBtn's top names are William (16 votes) and Eleanor (13). This is with spellings not combined. With combined spellings, Eleanor ties with Catherine/Katharine/Katherine/Kathryn, which got 4/1/6/2 votes respectively, for a total of 13. Thankyou everyone who formatted as requested, it was a big help. There's quite a few of you who can't count to 5 though ;) It retrospect, it would've been alot easier to not combine spellings, for simplicity when I was tallying and, as Chrisell pointed out, for comparison with the SSA list. You learn from your mistakes, I guess. Here's the Top 10-ish lists, with spellings combined, but different spellings will be listed next to them so you can see which spelling got how many votes etc.BOYS-

Chiming in with everyone else--thanks so much for doing this. :) I did it once, unofficially, on a much smaller scale so I know how much work it is. :b We definitely have good taste here, lol. But I was sad to see just about all of my names on the list. :-/ Funny how my taste seems so 'out there' IRL but it's run-off-the-mill and somewhat boring here at BtN. :b #3) Henry (11)
#6) Julian (8)
#7) 7 votes: August
#10) 4 votes: {Eliot(1)+Elliott(3)}
(Emmett - not listed) #7) 6 votes: Ruby
#8) 5 votes: {Nora(3)+Norah(2)}
#9) 4 votes: Violet
#10) 3 votes: Isla
(Clara - not listed)

Wow, thanks for doing this!BtN has great taste, too. :)

God, I can't believe Jasper and Rowan are so popular, I can't stand 'em.Most of my names didn't make it! I think I may have said Maria, and I know I said Benedict. I'm surprised Benedict isn't higher.I think I said Adelaide and Antonia too.I like a lot of these anyway.Edit: Oh, check out Simon.

Sorry, I didn't read your post when I was replying. I just read the post on the lounge and figured that was it.That's pretty much the results I expected.

Connor,

I guessed that Henry or Felix and Sophia or Elizabeth / Elisabeth would win. I was surprised that William, Noah, and Eleanor were so popular. On my list that were popular:
Anna
Miriam
Evelyn
Jude
Gideon
ReubenExcepting Anna, most of these I think are board-popular and not rest-of-the-world-popular.

After looking at the list and what other people chose, I found names that I "forgot" when compiling my list :) The ones that weren't on my list I like:BOYS-

Jacob
Oscar
SeanGIRLS-
Lily

Thanks for putting this together! And actually, I kind of like that you group together the same names with different spellings.

A few of mine...Andrew, David, Katherine, and Antonia made the top 10. Not my dear Cora, Peregrine, or Fletcher, though. :-)

Umm...1490 - 1 does not equal 1449 :) LOL

Bugger!Yeah *blushes* I'm going to blame it on all the numbers and the tallying and such :$ Lol.

Yay.None of my favorites hit the list. :-D

Thanks!Very interesting. I hope youmade it as far as putting my names in as well (although I put them in after the 'last call', because I just got back). So far only Oscar and Iris seemed to have made it to the top 10 as far as I can see. I'd like to see the complete list (I think on the game board it'd make a nice BtN CAF :P). I think that there are some nice interesting names, but also quite a few names that I consider slightly boring. The biggest suprises are to me that Rupert had 5 votes (it's just sounds like an old man to me), and that Ivy did so well, because I didn't think it got an awful lot of discussion on the board. Thanks again for doing this!
vote up1
Yep, yours were counted...(m)I actually kept it open for about 24 hours after last call, so they were included :)Just thoguht you'd like to know.I had some suprises too. It was interesting to see.

ALL of my girls names made it. hmm...It doesn't bother me because the favourites on this board do not represent the favourites of the general real life public. :)William, Owen, and Benjamin were my boys names up there, but Catherine, Eleanor, Margaret, Nora, and Evelyn made it. My other two boy's names were Patrick and Morgan. But, man, there are a lot of nice names up there! Besides for the names I voted for, I also like:Alexander
James
Henry
John
Rowan
Arthur
Nicholas
Theodore
Peter
Connor
Edmund
Edward
George
Alistair
Andrew
Daniel
Oliver
Samuel
Sean
Simon Josephine
Elizabeth
Charlotte
Anna
Claire
Mary
Ophelia
Caroline
Gemma
Helena
Ingrid
Isla
Theresa
Vivienne - prefer VivienThanks for donig this! It's amazing!

Thanks a lot for doing this, it must have been so much work!I'm quite board trendy, what with my Josephine, Nathaniel, Ezra, Matilda, Hazel and John making the cut! I like a lot of the names up there, but I'm not suprised by that. But you know, I wouldn't have guessed that Eleanor and William were the top BtN names. Very interesting :)
vote up1
Thanks for doing all that work!I have to say that we have very nice taste on this board. I love most of the names! I also think it's nice that there weren't any names that were ridiculously popular across the board (like a name making it on 30 lists or something). It shows that there is nice diversity on this board as well.

Well, I'm depressed that a few of my names made it on there--but it's not like I didn't expect that. My tastes are really rangey, and I knew people around here were fond of Nathaniel...and I'm not really surprised about Simon or Edmond, either (though I'm pleased everyone else seems to prefer Edmund, lol). I'm similarly unsurprised about Katharine, but I content myself with the fact that mine is the only Katharine-with-an-A, and that mine would likely be the sole Kitty. On the whole, the list does sound pretty typical of the board--I'm not terribly surprised by any of it.As far as combining-vs-not-combining, I personally find it a lot more helpful that you've combined them.Array

Katharine "Kitty"...(m)Yes, you were the only one who put Kitty down- in fact, you were the only one who listed a nn for Katharine etc. full stop. It would have been interesting to include the nn's that people put, but it was just too many names! Ah well :)I'm glad you found the combining helpful. It was just so hard- which names do I group together, which ones don't I? Some were easy, like Connor and Conner, but some where much harder to decide, like Eleanor and Elanor. Argh.

Girls are up :)

So this is what it feels like to be trendy! :D 3 of my 5 boy names make the top 10. I guess I expected it; my taste in boy's names tends to be more toward the trendy/biblical, and they're always popular. It was so much fun to read everyone's responses. Thanks for doing this--I can't wait to see the girl results. ETA: That is a very traditional girl list. I'm a little surprised, but still impressed because they are so beautiful.

Wow, I like most of them:
Alexander
Noah
Henry
John
Jude
Julian
Rowan
Nathaniel
Elijah
Owen
Benjamin
David
Gideon
Peter
Tristan
Connor
Dominic
Felix
Isaiah
Andrew
Damian
Daniel
Elliott
Gabriel
Jacob
Lucas / Lukas
Luke
Oliver
Oscar
Samuel
Seth
Simon Elijah, Nathaniel, and Samuel were on my list. Not that I didn't realize they were popular, but I'm a little sad to see them up there! I see Connor got a lot of votes. For a few seconds I was considering putting it on my list, too. I'm surprised to see Damian and Jude up there! I love them both, and I thought they were relatively uncommon! Thanks for doing this survey, it's really interesting to see!Edit: I like a lot of those girls names. Gabrielle was the only one from my list thats up there. I figured Jordana & Monica & probably Natasha wouldn't make it, I don't think I've seen those names talked about much here. I wasn't sure about Dahlia though, I'm glad to see it's not up. :)

Apparently I'm board trendy, since I like most of these. :D None of mine were on here though! That's surprising. I thought Christopher would be in there somewhere. If this was a top ten thing, I would have put Jasper, Peter, Ezra, and Oskar though.+ Ah, I knew I was even more board trendy when it came to girls. ;) Julia and Iris made it, which I was kind of expecting. I was also expecting June, but that's cool that it didn't show. Again, if this was a top ten thing, I would have included Susannah and possibly Katharine (or at least a form of it) and Scarlett. Actually now that I think about it, collectively I like the boy choices much more than the girls. *shrug*

I almost put Christopher on my list :)

Christopher got 2 votes, so it nearly made it :)Yeah, it would've been nice to do a top 10- if it was some other poor sucker totalling them up ;) If I ever do this again, it'll be 2 names per gender...hehe.

I could do it.... I love making excel sheets :B

Thanks for doing this!BtN has pretty good taste! I'm so glad John made the top 5. Guess I'm pretty boring, though, because most of my favourites made it right on here. Oh well. I make up for it with Herbert and Ernest.*crouches by the computer, waiting for girl's names*
